Wellington:
England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the last test against New Zealand because of a right knee injury, and will miss the upcoming Indian Premier League.
The England and Wales Cricket Board said on Wednesday that Pietersen felt pain in his knee before a four-day match earlier this month, and that a recent scan showed "bone bruising and possible cartilage damage to the knee cap."
The ECB says Pietersen will return to England for further treatment and is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks - ruling him out of the lucrative IPL.
The last test between England and New Zealand starts on Friday.
