FACTOID: MS Dhoni becomes the first Indian captain to win 25 Tests and the 11th skipper in the world to do so.
Man of the Match for his 177 on debut Rohit Sharma: "It can't get better than this. It is such a memorable Test and we are really proud. Ashwin and I wanted to stick together and capitalise on the loose balls. We rotated the strike regularly. Today morning was going to be important. We wanted to take enough lead and put them under pressure. That's exactly what happened. The bowlers did a fantastic job. I really love the Eden Gardens. The crowd is always fantastic and I'm going to take back something special today."
MS Dhoni after win: "This was a fantastic performance. I felt the second day was the worst to bat. As it went on, despite a few spots, it was easy to bat as the ball came to the bat slower. Shami bowled great lines and lengths. His good seam position is the reason behind his 9 wickets. He's able to swing it both ways. Rohit was set to make his debut long before but he injured his ankle and missed out. He is enjoying his cricket now and is taking a lot more responsibility. If your 8, 9 and 10 can contribute, it helps a lot. Ashwin can bat like a batsman. He batted very well with Rohit. He bowled beautifully too and it helps others as well if you are not giving away runs."
Darren Sammy after loss: "We keep singing the same song. We keep getting ourselves in good positions in Test matches but we give it away. Even when India was batting, we were in a good position for a while. Getting bowled out in less than 60 overs is never any good for any Test side. One of our goals is to bat long and last beyond the second new ball. Shillingford bowled very well. He's able to bowl long spells. We have to improve, myself included. We thought two spinners was the way to go here. We will try to come up with the best combination for Mumbai."

Sachin Tendulkar cut short by dubious LBW decision
The party at Eden Gardens came to a grinding halt when Sachin Tendulkar -- despite his two confident shots to the fence -- was dismissed for 10 by West Indian off-spinner Shane Shillingford in the first session of play on Day 2 of the first Test in Kolkata. The dismissal had a large hint on controversy especially after TV replays showed the ball was climbing and perhaps would have missed the off-stump. There is no provision of Decision Review System in this series because India hates it. (Read more)

Sachin Tendulkar: A passage through Eden Gardens
For the man who has scored more runs than anyone else in the world, Kolkata's Eden Gardens hasn't exactly been a happy hunting ground. However, that's just by the Sachin Tendulkar's standards. The Master Blaster's record at Eden is actually better than many other former Indian Test batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin and Kolkata's cricket son Sourav Ganguly.
He may not have set Eden Gardens on fire, but one of Sachin's two Test hundred in the City of Joy came against the same side he will play in the penultimate match of his career, West Indies. In 2002, Sachin made 176 in the 2nd innings of the Kolkata Test, and went on to save the match for India, helping India claim a 2-0 series win.
