Sourav Ganguly: "Darren Sammy would be more disappointed after Day 2, he let India off the hook after lunch by not attacking Dhoni and Rohit. This Indian side is a dangerous one, you don't want to give them chances. We saw what happened in the one-day series vs Australia. Every time when the pressure is on them, they seem to deliver. 08:00 (IST) Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Day 2 of the Eden Gardens Test as all eyes will be on Sachin Tendulkar, who'll get a chance to bat today.

 

India would look to maintain their upper hand against West Indies when they come out to bat on Day 2. However, all eyes will be on Sachin Tendulkar, who is playing his 199th Test here at Eden Gardens, as he is expected to bat today.

At stumps, India were comfortable placed at 37 for no loss with the two openers, Shikhar Dhawan (21) and Murali Vijay (16), at the crease. At the end of first day's play, India trailed the West Indies by 197 runs with all their wickets intact.

Dream debut for Mohammed Shami

Pacer Mohammed Shami announced his arrival on the Test arena by scalping four wickets in a dream spell against the West Indies as a dominant India started Sachin Tendulkar's farewell series by taking early control of the first Test on Wednesday.

Shami admitted that the change of ball helped his cause as the replaced one started swinging much more enabling him to get rid of a set Marlon Samuels and an experienced Denesh Ramdin off successive overs during the opening day of first Test. (Read here)

Shami returned impressive figures of 4/71 in 18 overs as India bowled out the visitors for a paltry 234 after they opted to bat at the Eden Gardens on the opening day.

Marlon Samuels top scored for the West Indies with 65 off 98 deliveries. Shivnarine Chanderpaul looked good with his 36 before he was knocked down by Ravichandran Ashwin (2/52). (Read Day 1 report here)

Sachin Tendulkar entertains Eden fans with his bowling skills

Sachin Tendulkar fans were left disappointed as they could not watch him bat on the opening day of his penultimate and 199th Test, but they had moments of celebration when he took a West Indian wicket. A Tricky delivery from Tendulkar deceived West Indies player Shane Shillingford and the whole stadium stood up to cheer the retiring senior batsman.

Shouting 'Sachin Sachin' on the top of their voices and vigorously waving the Indian tri-colour, a festive atmosphere engulfed the stadium all of a sudden as Shillingford was adjudged LBW off Tendulkar on five in the 63rd over at the Eden Gardens. This was his 46th Test wicket.

In the two overs he bowled, Tendulkar gave only five runs, while grabbing a wicket.

It was at the same venue Tendulkar had conceded just three runs in the last over in the Hero Cup semi-final in November 1993 to deny South Africa a win. (Read more)

Sachin Tendulkar: A passage through Eden Gardens

For the man who has scored more runs than anyone else in the world, Kolkata's Eden Gardens hasn't exactly been a happy hunting ground. However, that's just by the Sachin Tendulkar's standards. The Master Blaster's record at Eden is actually better than many other former Indian Test batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin and Kolkata's cricket son Sourav Ganguly.

He may not have set Eden Gardens on fire, but one of Sachin's two Test hundred in the City of Joy came against the same side he will play in the penultimate match of his career, West Indies. In 2002, Sachin made 176 in the 2nd innings of the Kolkata Test, and went on to save the match for India, helping India claim a 2-0 series win.

* Miss You Sachin - an album by a city-based artist - will be played at the ground during the course of the 1st Test match against West Indies.

* A photo exhibition of 100 images depicting highlights of Tendulkar's career was unveiled on Monday.

* Three light aircrafts will shower 199 kgs of rose petals after the proceedings on the final day of the Test. The player, on arrival in the city, was greeted with 199 roses as well.
