Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews did not mince words while criticising his team's lackluster display as India thumped the visitors by 153 runs on Thursday. The fourth loss on the trot left Matthews fuming as his bowlers were thrashed by a record-setting Rohit Sharma who scored 264. (Scorecard | Match Highlights)
While the hosts rode on a scintillating performance from Rohit, who surpassed Virender Sehwag's 219 to slam the highest individual score in ODIs, Mathews was left visibly angry at his team's efforts on the field. (Full match report | Rohit's knock in pics)
"It is embarrassing that we are not even competing. We lost our way in the last 20 overs. It is not acceptable. Our bowlers didn't have any answers today," Mathews said in the post-match presentation.
Mathews was in no mood for mercy and felt his team needed to set things right in every department of their game to get over their horrific show on Thursday.
"We need to fix our problems. We need to get everything - batting, bowling and fielding - right," Mathews said.
While he blamed his team's effort in their loss, he was also all-praise for Rohit.
"To score 290 (team score) in the last 25 is unbelievable. Nothing can be taken away from Rohit, though." (When Dhoni predicted Rohit's record)
While Rohit Sharma & Co. will celebrate late into the night, the visitors will need time to heal their wounds. When the two teams meet for the last and final ODI on Sunday, Mathews will expect his boys to pull themselves together and play for their pride.
