Sunil Gavaskar, who had criticised Kohli's wide-apart stance in the previous Test matches, observed that the Indian captain had reduced the gap between his feet to gain better balance while playing his strokes.
"His head is definitely in a better position and that has enabled Kohli to cut out the risks on a challenging wicket," said Gavaskar while commentating on the Kotla Test.
Entering into the match, Kohli was under some pressure having contributed just 112 runs at an average of 22.4. He shared a century stand with Ajinkya Rahane, which was the first hundred-run partnership in this series.
The 27-year-old had a big slice of luck earlier in the innings on Day 3. Batting on five, he was given out as he tried to poke an Imran Tahir legbreak and was given out by Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford. Kohli was stunned and he refused to move after he was given out.
Finally, he started making his way when the umpire wanted to check for the no-ball. Tahir had overstepped and the decision was overturned. Kohli, who was fuming when he left, returned to the crease and had a quiet chat with the umpire.
Kohli was unbeaten on 83 overnight. It was his first fifty in eight innings. His celebrations on reaching a half-century were subdued as he knew the job was half done.
While the skipper only added five runs on Sunday before falling to Kyle Abbott, his return to form is a welcome sign for Team India.
