Former selector Mohinder Amarnath on Wednesday said that while Sachin Tendulkar can still play in the national team, he cannot be expected to recreate the same magic on the field.
Speaking to NDTV, Amarnath said that age catches up with everybody and Tendulkar is no different. " Age comes to everybody. We have to accept it. Sachin is no different. He is a great player but one cannot play forever," he said.
Asked about whether selectors should talk to the batsman or it should be the other way round, Amarnath said it should be a mutual dialogue process. "There should be a dialogue between the two. The matter should be discussed. Sachin can still play well but he cannot do what he has over a career of 22 years or so."
Amarnath had recently stirred a hornet's nest when he said that selectors are not given a free hand and that their decision to sack MS Dhoni as skipper was over-ruled by BCCI.
"Selectors should be given a free hand. If you don't trust them what is the point.I don't want controversy but I was pushed against the wall."
