Stats pack: Dhawan 13th Indian to score Test ton on debut
Dhawan became the tenth Indian player to post a hundred in his debut innings. Lala Amarnath, Baig and Viswanath had scored hundreds in the second innings.

# Shikhar Dhawan is the 13th Indian batsman to register a hundred on Test debut, joining Lala Amarnath and Deepak Shodhan, Kripal Singh, Abbas Ali Baig, Hanumant Singh, Gundappa Viswanath, Surinder Amarnath, Mohammad Azharuddin, Praveen Amre, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina.

# Dhawan's unbeaten 185 is the highest innings by an Indian debutant in Tests and the sixth highest overall. England's Tip Foster had made 287 against Australia at Sydney in December 1903 followed by 222 not out by  Jacques Rudolph for S.Africa against Bangladesh at Chittagong in 2002-03; 214 by Lawrence Rowe for W.Indies against N.Zealand at Kingston in 1971-72; 214 by Matthew Sinclair for N.Zealand against W.Indies at Wellington in 1999-00 and 201 not out by Brendon Kuruppu for S.Lanka against N.Zealand at Colombo,CCC in 1986-87.
# Dhawan's 85-ball hundred is the quickest century by a debutant in Tests, eclipsing the 93-ball hundred by Dwayne Smith (WI) vs South Africa at Cape Town in 2003-04.
# Dhawan and Vijay have shared a stand of 283 (unbroken) - India's highest against Australia for the first wicket and their third highest for this wicket-position in Tests, next only to the 413 between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy against N.Zealand at Chennai in 1955-56 and 410 between Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag against Pakistan at Lahore in 2005-06.
# The aforesaid stand is the joint second highest by any opening pair against Australia in Tests - the highest being 323 between Jack Hobbs and Wilfred Rhodes against England at Melbourne in 1911-12. The same pair were also involved in a 283-run stand against England at Melbourne in 1924-25.
# Dhawan is the fourth Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag (twice), Polly Umrigar and Mohammad Azharuddin to make 100 runs or more in one session between lunch and tea.
# Murali Vijay (83 not out) has recorded his third fifty in Tests - his first against Australia.
# Vijay has completed his 500 runs against Australia - 516 in five Tests, including two hundreds and a fifty, at an average of 73.71.
