Pakistan have recalled opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad for the T20 World Cup cricket tournament to be played in India from March 8. Shehzad was not picked for the just-concluded Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh. Shahid Afridi will lead the former champions. (India Start as Favourites After Asia Cup Success)
Shehzad replaces Khurram Manzoor, who failed to score in the Asia Cup. Shehzad last played a T20 international in New Zealand in January this year. He has played 40 T20 internationals and scored 941 runs with a top score of 111 not out and four fifties. (Pakistan Security Team Arrives at Attari, Heads for Dharamsala)
The Pakistan selectors have almost stuck to the 15-man squad that did duty at the Asia Cup. Pakistan failed to qualify for the final after being beaten by hosts Bangladesh. The Pakistan Cricket Board has ordered a probe into the team's failings but only Manzoor has paid the penalty.
Afridi will have the inform Sarfraz Ahmed as his deputy. Afridi, himself, has failed to inspire his team with performance but managed to hold on to his position. Mohammad Hafeez too has kept his place despite his poor Asia Cup run.
