Gayle will be back to familiar conditions. Having played every edition of the Indian Premier League since 2008, Gayle should relish Indian wickets when West Indies begin their campaign with a group match against England in Mumbai on March 16.
What makes Gayle such a potent force in the T20 World Cup?
# Gayle (807 runs) occupies the second place in the list of batsmen who have scored most runs in the tournament. Tillakaratne Dilshan is the other batsman to score 700-plus runs (764) (Difficult to Replace Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine: Darren Sammy)
# Gayle (49 sixes) owns the record for most boundary sixes scored by a batsman in T20 World Cup. He needs one more boundary six to become the first batsman to score 50 boundary sixes in ICC World Twenty20.

# The T20 World Cup has witnessed six centuries. Gayle (117 vs South Africa in 2007) has scored one of them. Brendon McCulllum's 123 for New Zealand against Bangladesh at Pallekele in 2012 is the highest individual score in the World T20.
# Gayle owns the record for most fifties in T20 World Cup with eight fifties (1 century and seven half centuries). He is closely followed by Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka who has scored seven fifties (1 century and six fifties). Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli of India have six fifties each.
# Gayle also holds the record for most half centuries in World T20. He has scored seven half centuries.
# Gayle remains the only captain to be dismissed run out after scoring a 50. He was run out for 98 in the game between West Indies and India at Bridgetown on May 9, 2010.
There are 19 occasions of a captain scoring fifties. Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara share the record for most fifties by a captain in ICC World T20. Both have scored three fifties.
