Expressing her happiness over the city hosting the India-Pakistan World T20 cricket clash on Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured the organisers to provide foolproof safety and security arrangements for the final match on April 3 here.
"I want to thank ICC, BCCI, CAB and (CAB president) Sourav Ganguly for organising this big event in Kolkata," Banerjee said before the start of the high-voltage tie.
"We will provide all kinds of safety, security and cooperation for the final also. Kolkata welcomes all of you," she said. (CAB Felicitates Cricket Greats)
An outfit, Anti-Terrorist Front of India, which is opposed to the Pakistan cricket team playing in India, had earlier threatened to dig up the pitch of Eden Gardens so that Saturday's match did not take place.
A thick security blanket had been thrown around the Eden Gardens and the hotel, where the Pakistan cricket team has been put up, following the threat.
The India versus Pakistan match in the World T20 has been reduced to 18 overs-per-side due to evening thundershowers that lashed the city.
