Bangladesh should be the favourites heading into the game, considering the form that they are in. The registered a comfortable win over with Netherland, where Tamim Iqbal struck an unbeaten 83 to help them post a competitive total. (Live SCORECARD | SCHEDULE | NEWS | VIDEOS | GALLERY)
The news from the middle is that toss has been delayed. The ground staff are working hard on a soaked Dharamsala outfield and an update is expected at around in sometime.ÂÂ
The bowlers followed up the good work to keep a tab on Netherlands' scoring rate.
Ireland, on the other hand, were stunned by Oman in their opening game. Ireland looked to have the game well in control, before a blitz from Amir Ali broke the hearts of the Irish fans.
Heading into the match, Bangladesh has a superior 3-1 win-loss record in T20Is.
World T20: Bangladesh vs Ireland
That wraps up our coverage of the day. Not a good day if you are a cricket fan, not at all if you are an Irish or Dutch fan as the teams have been eliminated due to the washouts. Another double header awaits us tomorrow. The weather in Nagpur should be fine. Afghanistan take on Zimbabwe in a knockout contest at 1500 IST followed by the dead rubber between Scotland and Hong Kong at 1930 IST. Do join us for all the action. Until then, it's good bye from us.
MASHRAFE MORTAZA says that it is always disappointing when rain plays spoilsport. Feels that his team had set up their score well with Tamim and Sarkar playing well followed by Sabbir before the rains coming in. Feels that his team is in good shape at the moment, riding on the confidence from the Asia Cup where they were runners up. States that there is pressure on his side but feels that his players are coping with it nicely.
WILLIAM PORTERFIELD says that they have to focus on the Netherlands game now. Accepts that it is disappointing to be out but feels that they have to learn from the mistakes committed in the Oman match. Feels that they missed some chances in that game which cost them. Maintains that they pride themselves on fielding well although there were some blips in both the matches.
Tamim was removed by Dockrell after the opener's stumping was missed by Niall O'Brien off the same bowler early on. Tamim's dismissal coincided with lightning coming across the ground. Rain had started few overs preceding his dismissal and this was the final nail in the coffin. So, the washout means that Bangladesh now have 3 points from 2 games and face a knockout match against Oman on 13th March. Ireland will play their last match against Netherlands purely for pride with both teams already out of contention.
Only 8 overs were possible in the match, in fact in the whole day. After the match was reduced to 12-overs-a-side, Bangladesh were put into bat by Ireland. Tamim was at his destructive best as he blasted the bowling all round the park. Sarkar was dropped twice before he too played a few big shots. McBrine finally removed Sarkar with some wily bowling to give some relief to the Irish.
So, the expected news has arrived. THE MATCH HAS BEEN CALLED OFF. Ireland have been eliminated. The force of the rain gods not only washed out out both matches today but also resulted in Netherlands and Ireland being ousted from the tournament.
UPDATE 2212 IST - More lightning at the ground and rain continues to come down steadily. Thunderstorms predicted and that should probably be it for the night. An official word should be out pretty soon.
It had been raining for a while now and the lightning has made the umpires make up their minds. Covers are on now and another delay it shall be.
OUT! SOFT DISMISSAL! Floats it up on off, Tamim lunges into it to check the flick stroke but spoons an easy catch to short mid-wicket where Porterfield takes it with glee. Much needed wicket for Ireland although you feel that Tamim has done the damage. LIGHTNING STRIKES AMIDST THE HEAVY RAIN AND THE PLAYERS WALK OFF.
Flatter on off, Tamim leans forward and jabs it to the covers for a single.
