21:07 (IST): A mammoth win for Sri Lanka then in a day dominated by records. The Netherlands were bowled out for the lowest-ever T20I total of 39 after being put in to bat first and then Sri Lanka reached their target with 15 overs to spare, recording the biggest ever win in T20I history in terms of balls remaining. Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal said that he never wanted to underestimate Netherlands but it was still a very satisfying win for them. Netherlands captain Peter Borren said that everything was a rush today and that his team need to improve very quickly. Angelo Mathews (3/16) was deservedly the Man of the Match.

The Netherlands and Sri Lanka are in Group 1 of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament. The group also has South Africa, New Zealand and England. It is a tough group with every side looking to collect full points against The Netherlands at least. It is this that may work in the favour of the Dutch men. Complacency in the T20 format can spell doom but The Netherlands are backing their own abilities to craft wins. Sri Lanka have been quite unbeatable in Bangladesh off late. After a successful bilateral outing here earlier this year, the Lankans claimed the Asia Cup as well. In the ICC World Twenty20 warm-ups, the team beat India by 5 runs but did lose to defending champions West Indies by 33 runs. They made up for it by clinching their first match of Group 1 - defeating Proteas by 5 runs. Under skipper Dinesh Chandimal, the team has a good and fiery combination of players who can come good at crucial stages.

Netherlands beat Ireland to enter Super-10

he Netherlands smashed the record for most sixes in an innings on their way to upsetting Ireland in Sylhet on Friday, romping into the Super-10 stages in the World Twenty20.

Wesley Barresi hit Tim Murtagh over mid-wicket for the 19th six of the innings to seal an emphatic six wicket win as the Netherlands chased down a daunting 190-run target in just 13.5 overs. (Read more)

Jayawardene, Sangakkara to retire from T20Is

Sri Lankan batting stalwart Mahela Jayawardene will retire from Twenty20 Internationals after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
