23:20 (IST): India's comprehensive 8-wicket win over West Indies at Kennington Oval takes them to the top of points table in Group B, meaning that India vs Pakistan game will be a dead rubber on Saturday, June 15 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. South Africa and West Indies will now fight for that elusive semi-final spot after India became the first team to book a semis berth in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. (Match in pics)

23:04 (IST): Ravindra Jadeja is the man of the match for his 5 for 36. "I was just trying to bowl in the right areas, I played here against England two years ago and took two wickets. I'm just trying to give a good performance every time. I was just bowling wicket-to-wicket and allowing the pitch do the rest."

 

23:00 (IST): Reactions from the Presentation Ceremony -

 

MS Dhoni: "Overall it was a very good team performance, WI got off to a very good start, they seemed like they would get 280 runs or so but our bowlers did very well after that. We were able to keep their batsmen at their respective ends, didn't let them rotate strike easily. You think I know him (Jadeja) well, but even I'm finding more things about him over a period of time. I think the execution from our bowlers was not really there in the death overs. We would have been happy with 230 at the outset. I think our young batsmen have accepted the challenge, Dhawan did well in the Tests, Rohit took up the challenge of opening the batting. It also helps that we have changed into a very good fielding side. I don't think Indian team has ever played a dead game, I think it is also important in areas where we want to improve. (talking about the next game against Pakistan, which is a dead rubber now)"

 

Dwayne Bravo: "Not enough runs on the board from us, after the start we got, we deserved to have socred 40-50 runs more. Having said that, the Indians bowled well, they had their plans and stuck to it. Congratulations to Darren Sammy for doing well in his return game. We need to work on working the ball around, we have to improve our strike-rates as middle-order batsmen. Definitely we bowled too wide especially with a fast outfield. We've got to give credit to the Indian batsmen. We still have a good chance to qualify. Sunil Narine is our key bowler but there were not enough runs on the board to suit his style of bowling. The next match (against South Africa) is like a final for us, we know it is not going to be an easy game, but we know we have the talent to do it."

 

22:50 (IST): So Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik do it for India in some style. Dhawan gets back to back second hundred and Dinesh Karthik a well-deserved fifty. Whats more, India go into the semis while Pakistan are knocked out after this result.

 

22:29 (IST): Players coming back now on the field as play is about to re-start at Oval, London.

 

22: 22 (IST): The rain has stopped and play is set to resume at 22:30 (IST) at the Oval. There will be no loss of overs. All covers are off the field except the one covering the pitch at the moment.

 

22:12 (IST): The drizzle seems to be getting heavier at the Kennington Oval. The on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Tony Hill are on the field under the umbrella along with reserve umpire Marais Erasmus, waiting for the drizzle to stop.

 

22:05 (IST): The umpires finally give in to the steady drizzle and the players walk off the field. India at this stage (204/2 in 35.1 overs) are ahead by 76 runs. If rain forces no further play then India will go onto win by 76 runs via the D/L method. Dhawan still nine short of a second consecutive ODI hundred and Dinesh Karthik steady on 29*.

21:38 (IST): With the drizzle at Kennington Oval getting steadier, Indians are already (179/2 after 30 overs) ahead by 73 runs in the Duckworth-Lewis  calculations if the rain forces play to stop.

 

Meanwhile, in Delhi a certain S Sreesanth walks out of Tihar Jail after getting bail.

 

21:20 (IST): Dhawan is dominating the West Indian bowling now and Dinesh Karthik is playing a nice and composed second fiddle to the lanky left-hander. Dhawan has made sure the Windies pacers do not settle to a good line and length. The 27-year-old's occasional audacious stroke against the spin of Sunil Narine is putting off for the opposition.

 

21:05 (IST): Second Wicket - Virat Kohli gets bowled to Narine, who pushes the ball through, bowling from round the stumps. Kohli made a classy 18-ball 22 that was punched with 4 fours.

 

20:50 (IST): Shikhar Dhawan continues his dream run in Indian colours, gets back-to-back fifty-plus scores. He took 45 balls for his second ODI fifty. STAT: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the only two Indian batsmen to score 50+ in their first two ICC Champions Trophy ties.

 

20:35 (IST): First Wicket - Rohit Sharma departs after a solid fifty and after a 100-run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan. Rohit's 52 came off 56 balls and was studded with seven fours. His faint inside edge was not seen by the umpire but the hot spot confirmed it after West Indies went for a review.

20:10 (IST): Shikhar Dhawan gets a second life as Kemar Roach drops him at fine leg. Dhawan went for the hook off Dwayne Bravo and Roach ambling in from the boundary failed to latch onto it. Earlier, Dhawan was dropped on 23 by Kieron Pollard, that was a difficult take at the backward-point position.

 

19:56 (IST): Indian openers have now set a nice platform for the middle order, taking their partnership past the 50-run mark. West Indies have employed Sunil Narine and Darren Sammy to stop the run flow but the Indians have managed them sensibly so far.

 

For people who are wondering who is donning the wicket-keeping gloves for the Windies, the answer is Johnson Charles.

 

19:38 (IST): Both players are now looking to open up a little bit. Dhawan and Rohit Sharma both average in the early thirties in their contrasting ODI careers. Interestingly, both players have the same highest individual score in ODIs - 114. In this innings Rohit is looking to wait on the back foot and use the pace of the bowlers, while, Dhawan is not being shy to move to the front foot and attack at times.

 

19:23 (IST): Early signs that Indian openers are going to play it steady against pacers Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are in fine form, with the former getting a fifty in the previous game and Dhawan registering his first ODI ton in the game against South Africa.

 

FACTOID: Virat Kohli is playing in his 100th ODI. In the 99 matches prior to this, he has an average of 49.21 with 4085 runs with a best of 183. He has 13 centuries and 22 fifties to his name.

 

18:40 (IST): The first innings depicted three heroes already in the match - Darren Sammy, Ravindra Jadeja and Johnson Charles. Jadeja's figures of 10-2-36-5 is best by any Indian bowler in the ICC Champions Trophy history. Who's contribution will be vital at the end of the day? We will have to wait and see. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will have to guard against complacency early on. Remember Kemar Roach took three wickets at the top to dismantle Pakistan in the previous game.

 

18:30 (IST): So Sammy makes sure that West Indies bat out the full 50 overs, enabling his side's bowlers to get a fair chance of defending a relatively par score. Sammy's thunderous 35-ball 56* is his fifth half-century in ODI cricket. Sammy and Roach shared 51 runs for the final wicket out of which Roach contributed a helpful unbeaten naught. 51 runs came in the final five overs as India once again paid the price of not hitting the right lengths in the death overs.

 

18:26 (IST): Darren Sammy is more than just a potential threat with the bat. For the statistically minded, his 50 in 20 balls against South Africa in Antigua in 2010 was the fastest ODI fifty by a West Indian.

 

18:14 (IST): Ninth Wicket - Ravindra Jadeja picks up his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. Ravi Rampaul the latest to fall. Rampaul tried to heave across the line and missed it by a mile. Jadeja hits timber and starts to celebrate.

 

18:09 (IST): Eighth Wicket: Sunil Narine departs cheaply and Ravindra Jadeja gets his fourth of the day. Narine miscued a lofted off drive and Suresh Raina took a simple catch at extra cover. Darren Sammy joined by Ravi Rampaul now.

 

18:00 (IST): Seventh Wicket: Keiron Pollard can't do more damage than his 22 runs. Pollard fails to clear long-on fence as he is caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar off the bowling of Ishant Sharma.

 

15:52 (IST): The batting powerplay did not cost much to Team India as only 24 runs came between overs 36 and 40. Plus the wicket of Dwayne Bravo forced Pollard and Sammy to delay their big hitting to the death overs. But can the West Indian all-rounders stand up?

 

17:40 (IST): Sixth Wicket: Umesh Yadav strikes for the first time as Dwayne Bravo falls for 25. Bravo pulled Umesh towards deep square fence where Ravindra Jadeja took a well-judged catch. Former skipper Darren Sammy now joins Pollard as West Indies. The batting powerplay is on and it will be interesting to see how much the Caribbeans manage while the field restrictions are on.

 

17:30 (IST): So we get a first glimpse at Pollard Power! The lanky Trinidadian hit R Ashwin for two successive sixes in the 36th over, the first over after the second drinks break. The first hit was over straight long-off and the second a massive heave over deep mid-wicket.

 

17:15 (IST): Fifth wicket: The partnership between the Bravo Brothers does not last longer than 31 runs as younger brother Darren Bravo is out stumped by Dhoni off the bowling of R Ashwin. Darren was beaten all ends up by the slower one. In comes Kieron Pollard and West Indies are half their side down.

16:42 (IST): Fourth Wicket - Jadeja can do no wrong, this time its Ramnaresh Sarwan who falls prey to him. Sarwan gets a faint edge to a ball down the leg side and Dhoni takes a sharp catch. Third wicket for Jadeja and West Indies under serious pressure. Skipper Dwayne Bravo will have a big job to do, batting along with his brother.

 

16:35 (IST): Third wicket - Jadeja strikes again and Marlon Samuels is gone. Kudos to MS Dhoni who went for a review. Samuels played from the crease with bat alongside the pad and it showed in the review that the ball hit pad first, resulting in the decision going in favour of the bowler. West Indies three down and pegged back now. New man in is Ramnaresh Sarwan. Windies need a big knock from him today.

 

16:23 (IST): Second strike for India and Ravindra Jadeja gets the dangerous Johnson Charles. Charles plays back to an arm ball by Jadeja and gets trapped lbw plumb in front. An easy decision for Aleem Dar.

 

16:12 (IST): Right-handed batsman from St. Lucia Johnson Charles reaches his first half-century in ODIs. Interestingly his previous two innings past 50 went on to become hundreds. The 24-year-old's two centuries are against Australia and Zimbabwe.

 

15:57 (IST): Indian captain now employs Virat Kohli, with a hope that slow swing bowling will perturb the West Indians. Five runs off Virat Kohli's first over and three runs off R Ashwin's first over. When will Ravindra Jadeja get to bowl?

 

15:49 (IST): Chris Gayle might have been dismissed but the danger still lies for India in the form of Johnson Charles, who has not looked troubled at all against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav. He has 6 fours already till the end of the eleventh over.

 

15:25 (IST): Massive wicket! Gayle is gone as he tries to play an upper cut over slips but fails to clear a diving R Ashwin at 1st slip. Bhuvneshwar Kumar draws first blood for India. An out-of-form Darren Bravo is the new man in.

15:09 (IST): Chris Gayle showcases Calypso style batting as his two 'Natraj' pulls past mid wicket fetches him two boundaries off the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Indian new ball bowlers still searching for the right length to bowl to the maverick Jamaican.

15:59 (IST): And the anthems are over and it's time for the cricketing action. The openers - Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles are out in the middle.

14:35 (IST): Team news is that India will field an unchanged side. West Indies though play Darren Sammy and Johnson Charles will be seen behind the stumps as Ramdin serves his suspension.

14:31 (IST): TOSS: India wins, MS Dhoni says his side will field under overcast conditions. Says no changes in his side.

14:20 (IST): Somehow strangely, these two teams last met in an ODI in England in 1983 - a match which India won.

14:11 (IST): The two teams have faced each other in 106 ODIs with India winning 46 but West Indies still having the edge with 57 victories in overall venues.

13:59 (IST): Unconfirmed reports suggest India may not be making any change to its top-order. Which means Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be seen at the top. For West Indies though, Denesh Ramdin will serve out his one-match suspension.

13:39 (IST): A day earlier, the Indian team came out to practice outdoor for the first time in four days. The team trained on three side wickets. Dhoni later told members of the press that it was a relief to not have newspapers or TV channels around.(Read what he said here)

13:14 (IST): Different agendas seem to be on the minds of the two captains facing off against each other today. While Dwayne Bravo has categorically said that he will use pace against India (Read), MS Dhoni wants to put controversies back home, at home and concentrate on cricket. (Read here)

12:40 (IST): The toss to today's match will be at 2:30 pm (IST), at the Kennington Oval (London). While some rain is expected through the course of the day, play will largely remain unaffected.

12:30 (IST): India go in as favourites against West Indies in today's match. The team has been in Birmingham since a few days and players have been training hard. Confidence his high after a solid win against South Africa but West Indies too have been in good form and can prove lethal on any given day.
