Anaheim Ducks beat LA Kings 4-1

Unlike Saturday's season opener, which had a quarter of an hour delay due to lighting problems, the second game of the NHL season started without a hitch at the O2 Arena in London, England.

The first game was won by the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, but their opponents, the Anaheim Ducks, got off to a much better start on Sunday.

They were on a power play midway through the first period when Andy McDonald fed the puck to Corey Perry in the slot.

Perry played the puck around screened netminder Jason LaBarbera before shooting it into the top of the net.

Perry had 17 goals and 27 assists last season - his second in the NHL. Later in the first period, Chris Kunitz received the puck in the corner and passed it to Kunitz in the slot.

He was stopped by LaBarbera, but the puck came loose and Kunitz pounced, wristing it into the net for the second Anaheim power play goal of the game.

Later in the first period, Anaheim's Jonas Hiller, a Swiss netminder making his NHL debut, stopped Alexander Frolov's shot from the point.

Kyle Calder picked up the rebound in the corner and fed it back to Frolov, but Hiller was once again there to make the stop.

He would go on to make 22 saves in the game. Early in the second period, the Ducks struck again.

Kent Huskins' shot from the point went wide of the goal, but hit the end boards and went all the way to Perry on the far side.

Perry slapped it past an out-of-position LaBarbera for his second goal of the game and Anaheim's third.

Just over a minute later the Ducks would make it 4-0. Chris Pronger's long pass went the length of the ice, where it was stopped by LaBarbera.

He gave it to Jaroslav Modry in the corner and the defenceman failed to control it under pressure.

Rob Niedermayer came up with the puck and fed Travis Moen in front for a quick wrister that LaBarbera missed with his glove.

Moen, a checking forward not known for his scoring prowess, notched just 11 goals last year.

Michael Cammalleri, who scored twice in Los Angeles' win on Saturday, got his third goal of this season five minutes later.

Derek Armstrong swung the puck down low to Cammalleri for a perfect snap shot that rocketed in past Hiller to put the Kings on the scoreboard.

The pressure and passion of the rivalry came to a head before the period was over as two of the teams' tough guys grappled.

The Ducks' George Parros took on Scott Thorton near centre ice. Both fighters threw some tremendous punches before Parros wrestled Thorton to the ice.

The fans gave them a standing ovation for their efforts. And, after a third period without incident, Anaheim claimed a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles - a reversal of the first game's final score.
