Istanbul:
German coach Bernd Schuster has quit Turkish club Besiktas following a series of poor results, the Istanbul club confirmed on Tuesday.
"Bernd Schuster has handed in his resignation. The affair is closed," said club spokesman Mete Duren, adding that the team would be coached until the end of the season by Schuster's Turkish assistant and former international Tayfur Havutcu.
Former Real Madrid coach Schuster took over in June 2010, but the 51-year-old ex-German international had been under fire since his side were humiliated by Dynamo Kiev 8-1 on aggregate in the Europa League round of 32.
Besiktas are seventh in the Turkish league 21 points behind leaders Fenerbahce with just one win from their last seven matches.
