Los Angeles:
Mexico has trounced Guatemala 4-0 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Mexico's star striker Jared Borgetti netted a pair of first half goals in the victory.
After a disappointing Gold Cup opening match against South Africa, Mexico looked to rebound against Guatemala on Sunday.
Jared Borgetti is Mexico's top scorer and against Guatemala he did not take long to show why.
In the fourth minute he took a pass from Luis Ernesto Perez, eluded defender Victor Hernandez and put a left-footed shot from 13 yards out, inside the left post.
Borgetti tallied again 10 minutes later with some fancy footwork. He stepped around a defender and launched a shot from 15 yards out that slid under the right hand of goalkeeper Miguel Angel Klee and headed into the net.
That brought the striker's goal total to 35 for the Mexican national team, tieing him with Luis Hernandez and Carlos Hermosillo on Mexico's all-time scorer's list.
Gerardo Galindo put Mexico up three-up after a 'give-and-go' with Luis Ernesto Perez. Borgetti's replacement, Omar Bravo scored the final goal, connecting with Antonio Naleson "Zinha's" pass.
Mexico will meet Jamaica on July 13 in Houston, Texas. (AP)
