A day after the Board of Control for Cricket in India's appointment of a star-studded, highly-reputed advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, former skipper and NDTV expert Sunil Gavaskar has pointed out what needs to be the biggest priority on their agenda for Indian cricket's future.
"They (the advisory committee) have to look at the entire picture. Not just the Indian national team but also the domestic structure. The most important thing is how they make sure talent is not lost which means focusing more on junior cricket, because that is the future," Gavaskar told NDTV. "The guys who are looking at junior cricket should be guys whose integrity is not questioned and who are beyond reproach," Gavaskar added.
Talking further on the credibility of the trio, Gavaskar suggested that BCCI have made the right choice. (Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman - Team India's Advisors)
"They've got the experience, they're contemporary and they know what the requirements of the modern player is. With three cricketing brains like that, we will get the right kind of input that the Indian team needs to go forward," Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar rubbished any signs of cynicism surrounding the appointment of the committee as well as Ravi Shastri's continuation as team director.
"I think it (Shastri's appointment) is a continuation of the set-up that was there for Aus tour. I think it's early days. Cricket is all about being patient. You will never get overnight results. Let's wait and see what the BCCI tells about what the committee is going to do," he added.
India will travel to Bangladesh for one-off Test and three ODIs , starting June 10.
