Iyer injured his left shoulder in March; he underwent a surgery in April
Recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained earlier this year, India batsman Shreyas Iyer has begun his rehabilitation after a successful surgery last month. On Saturday, Iyer posted a video on social media where he is seen running up a small slope in what comes as the latest update on his fitness since the injury that saw him miss part of India's ODI series against England as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in March-April. Iyer's India teammate Suryakumar Yadav posted a cheeky comment on the video: "Shahenshah running technique".
Iyer subluxated his left shoulder while fielding in the first ODI between India and England in March this year.Â
After completing his surgery, Iyer was seen working out indoors in another video he posted on social media. "Work in progress" wrote Iyer.Â
Should the middle-order batsman recover in time, Iyer could be on the flight to Sri Lanka when India visit the country for a limited-overs series.Â
India are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Sri Lanka in July. The team for that tour will most probably not feature the players selected in the Test team for the tour of the UK from June to September.Â
India will play New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship from June 18 in Southampton. This will be followed by a five-match Test series against England starting August 4.Â
Iyer has scored 813 ODI runs at 42.78 with one century and eight half-centuries. He has 550 T20I runs at 28.94 and a strike rate of 133.81 with three half-centuries.Â
