It was a very very special day indeed as VVS Laxman became only the 4th Indian to complete 8000 runs in Test cricket. He achieved the feat at an average of 47.05 in 122 Tests, including 16 centuries.
He took 201 innings to reach 8000 runs, which is the fourth fastest by an Indian, next only to Sachin Tendulkar (154), Rahul Dravid (158) and Sunil Gavaskar (166). The top Indian run-scorers are - Sachin Tendulkar (14692), Rahul Dravid (12220), Sunil Gavaskar (10122) and VVS Laxman (8000).
Among the international cricketers, Laxman is the 22nd batsman to complete 8000 runs or more in Tests. (Also Read: Laxman praises Raina, backs misfiring youngsters)
Laxman averages 50.84 against West Indies - 1271 in 18 Tests, including three hundreds. He completed his 1000 runs (ave.45.45) in 15 Tests in the Caribbean with the help of two centuries and eight fifties. Laxman has become the fourth Indian to aggregate 1,000 runs or more in the Caribbean, joining Rahul Dravid (1417), Sunil Gavaskar (1404) and Polly Umrigar (1005).
VVS Laxman (85) has posted his eighth fifty against West Indies - his 50th in Tests. He is only the third Indian to post 50 fifties. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have recorded 59 fifties each in Tests.
Laxman and Suresh Raina were involved in a stand of 117 for the fifth wicket - India's highest at Bridgetown, surpassing the 81 between Mohinder Amarnath and Ravi Shastri in April 1983. Raina (53) registered his second half-century against the West Indies - his fourth in Tests.
