Rotation shouldn't be restricted to top order: Aakash Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels Team India's rotation policy should not be restricted only to the top three batsman and there should be a change in the middle-order of the team as well.

"I am for the rotation, but the way it is being done is not right. It should not be limited to the openers only," Chopra said.

"Gambhir is currently in good form, but he will probably be rested for the next game, that is not good. The rotation is being done without a specific method," said Chopra.

The Rajasthan batsman was also of the view that players like Manoj Tiwary should be given a chance, however, not at the cost of Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina, who both deserve an extended run.

"How long he (Manoj Tiwary) is going to warm the benches?" Chopra asked.

"Rohit and Raina have earned their chances. They have been consistent performers for the team in the past. If you look at Rohit, he was man of the series in both home and away series against West Indies, so to say he is not performing will be a bit harsh. Raina too has been a good contributor to the team. They should be given a long enough rope to make a comeback," he insisted.

Chopra also came out in support of Virender Sehwag, who has not had a great run of form in the ongoing ODI tri-series in Australia.

"There are only two batsmen in the history of the game to have scored a double century in the ODIs. So to say he (Sehwag) can not make the runs is unfair. He will get back to form probably he needs an extended run. He should be given four-five matches without a break and then a call should be made," said Chopra on the sidelines of a function here.
