Anil Kumble Tells Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni: 'Eager to Work With You'

Anil Kumble probably had his busiest social media day on Thursday. Usually a reserved man who loves to stay away from the spotlight, Kumble was flooded with congratulatory messages after the Board of Control for Cricket in India named him as head coach for a year.

Kumble, India's highest wicket-taker, has received messages from all walks of life - players, film directors, journalists and even chief ministers.

But Kumble's immediate attention will be on India's Test team that will embark on a four-Test tour of the West Indies in July-August.

Test skipper Virat Kohli was one of the first to congratulate Kumble on his appointment and the new head coach was quick to respond.

Kohli had developed a good rapport with former team director Ravi Shastri over that last 18 months. It remains to be seen how the young Test captain gels with a no-nonsense head coach.

Perhaps MS Dhoni's mind set will work better with Kumble and the former leg-spinner is excited. Kumble congratulated Dhoni for winning the ODI and T20 series in Zimbabwe earlier this week.

Several former cricketers like Sanjay Manjrekar have welcomed Kumble's appointment ahead of Shastri.

The Indian cricket team now has a coach who will put his heart & soul in the job. Anil Kumble knows no other way of working.
