Kevin Pietersen's South African Twenty20 foray ended in failure on Saturday when his Dolphins franchise team were beaten by the home side, the Titans, in the final of South Africa's franchise competition - Ram Slam T20 Challenge. The former England batsman made only 10 off 11 balls before hitting a steepling catch to deep midwicket in a Dolphins total of 159 for five. (Out of Competitive Cricket But Kevin Pietersen Still in Thick of Things)
Fellow overseas professional, West Indian Dwayne Bravo, top-scored with 53 off 30 balls.
The Titans, who started as favourites after topping the round-robin table, cruised to victory by seven wickets with 19 balls to spare.
Former South African Under-19 player Mangaliso Mosehle thrashed 87 off 39 balls for the winners.
In a television interview before the match, Pietersen described his seven-match stint with the Dolphins, based in his boyhood home town of Durban, as "really special to me."
Pietersen, who will fly to Melbourne on Sunday to play in Australia's Big Bash T20 league, praised the set-up at the Durban-based franchise.
"The guys have been absolutely brilliant with their work ethic and the way the team have gelled," he said.
Pietersen made 401 runs in the tournament at an average of 80.20 with a strike rate of 172.84.
