During the course of his innings, VVS Laxman had tweeted that Sehwag's knock was brilliant and he would love it if he signed off from first-class cricket with a triple century. However, in an epic riposte, Sehwag said that scoring a 300 in domestic cricket was not easy as all the fielders were on the boundary line after he had gone past 50. His opening partner during the 2003/04 season, Aakash Chopra, noted that Sehwag should not face any problems from the fielders as he could clear the boundary ropes with ease.

Sehwag retired from the international arena with 8586 runs in 104 Tests at an impressive average of 49.34 and with a strike-rate of over 82.
In 251 ODIs, he accumulated 8273 runs at an average of 35.05 and scored them at a strike-rate of over 100. In this match against Karnataka, Sehwag scored 136 off 170 balls and the knock included 16 fours and three sixes.
