Former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi has alleged that Justice Mukul Mudgal - in charge of investigating corruption charges against Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals - was the target of a covert surveillance operation during his recent visit to London. What I just learnt seems straight out of a spy movie thriller. Apparently someone authorised an agency in london-4 a 24 hour surveillance...

Retired Justice Mudgal, who is heading the investigations against team owners of CSK and RR, was followed closely by a sophisticated surveillance agency in London, according to Modi. He further alleges that he himself was the "secondary target" of the operation which he claims is a breach of individual privacy. "There were six teams hired who did round the clock surveillance using three Audi cars and bikes and a cab. Who could possibly have authorised such an operation?" tweeted Modi. He however stopped short of taking names although his allegations seemed to be directed at BCCI chief N Srinivasan. Modi and Srinivasan do not see eye-to-eye after the former was expelled from BCCI in 2010. (Related: Bombay High Court provides relief to Lalit Modi)
Modi also alleged on Twitter that crores of rupees were spent daily to conduct the surveillance. "My security company has some details of the operatives and are verifying who is behind this operation," he wrote.
This covert invasion of privacy and totally illegal operation I am told cost crores of. Rupees a day. No guessing who could be behind this

Justice Mudgal is expected to submit his report to the Supreme Court on February 10. If the allegations made by Modi can be established, it could see a dramatic turn of events as the IPL auctions are due to be held on February 12 and 13 in Banglore.
