Former Indian Test captain Rahul Dravid called for legal intervention to tackle match-fixing and doping in sports. Addressing a Central Bureau of Investigation conference on Tuesday, Dravid said the current framework was not good enough to tackle corruption in sports.
At least four players from Rajasthan Royals, including former Test pacer S. Sreesanth, are alleged to have fixed matches in return for money during this year's Indian Premier League. Dravid was the skipper of Rajasthan Royals and was devastated when the news of spot-fixing broke.
"According to me four things in sports need immediate legal intervention: Age fraud, doping, deliberate underperformance and involvement of players in betting," Dravid said.
Players will always be greedy, felt Dravid, saying: "Self constraint will always be inadequate to tackle corruption in sports."
The Wall, whose integrity and commitment during his brilliant career was never in doubt wanted stricter reforms to control corruption. "I believe it is time for legal reforms because the framework within sports bodies is not enough to tackle corruption."
