BCCI members are set to propose stand-in chief Jagmohan Dalmiya's name as the next chairman of the Indian Premier League, replacing Rajeev Shukla who resigned in June. According to reports, Dalmiya is set to be rewarded for extending his support to N Srinivasan in the wake of the IPL 6 betting and spot-fixing scandal.
A new IPL commissioner will be appointed at the BCCI annual general meeting on September 29 and Dalmiya is the favourite to take the post. Previous chairman, Rajeev Shukla had resigned immediately after the IPL controversy came to light.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that N Srinivasan will be able to chair the AGM despite the Bombay High Court stalling his comeback as president. In an affidavit filed by him in Bombay High Court on 4th July, Mr Srinivasan had said that he would keep away from the day to day affairs of the board till the IPL corruption case is resolved. However, the AGM is not categorised as a day-to-day affair, so Srinivasan chairing the meeting will not be in contempt of court.
