Stop IPL temporarily to clean up Indian cricket: Ex-BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya

For former International Cricket Council chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, who has also headed the Indian cricket board, cleaning cricket is paramount. He suggests that if stopping the Indian Premier League temporarily helps so that, it should be done.

Speaking to NDTV on Thursday, Dalmiya said that all forms of 'sleaze' have to be removed from the sport. Asked if he was referring to IPL, he said: "If necessary and if that is what is needed for the shorter period. Whatever you need to clean cricket, you need to go ahead and if it (IPL) needs to be stopped for the time being, it has to be stopped."

The president of the Cricket Association of Bengal also said that it is for all cricketers , administrators and 'all others' to know when cricket is completely clean. "After all, if we cannot judge if this is clean cricket or not, it is pity on our part."

Dalmiya however said he did not wish to "pass judgment" on N. Srinivasan's tenure as BCCI chief. "I have nothing to go and individually say to him (Srinivasan). I am not going into any unnecessary debate."

Srinivasan played a major role to oust once cricket's strongest man, Dalmiya, from the BCCI's top spot. In 2002, Srinivasan, then the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, joined hands with Sharad Pawar, Shashank Manohar and Lalit Modi to form a strong opposition to usurp Dalmiya's throne.

However, over the past few weeks N Srinivasan has come under tremendous pressure and scrutiny with many suggesting that his role in the Board has become 'untenable' due to the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
