Injury concerns for India ahead of World Cup

New Delhi:

With four key players sent back from South Africa due to injuries, India have fitness concerns as they are going to announce their 15-member squad for the ICC World Cup on Monday.

While Sachin Tendulkar injured his right hamstring, Virender Sehwag has a shoulder injury. Gautam Gambhir had hurt his left knuckles, while Praveen Kumar had injured his elbow. Parthiv Patel replaced Sachin for the remaining tour of South Africa and will give the selectors an option as a back up keeper at the World Cup. The Ahmedabad boy could just knock Rohit Sharma out from the final 15.

India have taken every precautionary measure to ensure their first-choice players are fit for the mega-event and therefore, it is expected that Sehwag, Praveen Kumar, Tendulkar and Gambhir will regain fitness by the time the World Cup starts.

So the selection meeting is expected to be one without too much brainstorming as thirteen of the fifteen places are sealed. Just two spots are up for grabs, which is one batsman and one spinner.

Here is the list of 30 probables: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, S Sreesanth, Munaf Patel, Ishant Sharma, Vinay Kumar, M Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Saurabh Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Parthiv Patel, R Ashwin, Wriddhimaan Saha, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Cheteshwar Pujara, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar.
