Think of Yuvraj Singh these days and you will think of a tried and tested match winner who is struggling to make it back to the Indian cricket team. The 33-year-old though hasn't given up hope of wearing the India jersey again. (RCB Aiming to Overturn Last Season's Flop Show)
On Tuesday, Yuvraj admitted, "It's been a couple of hard years for me since I have come back from my treatment. I am in good shape, I have worked very hard and I have had a good domestic season. I am confident of doing well and hope that things get better from here and I make it back into the team."
The 33-year-old Yuvraj might not be on the selectors' radar currently, but he did score three consecutive Ranji Trophy centuries last year and was bought for a record Rs 16 Crore by the Delhi Daredevils IPL franchise after a bidding war between 4 different franchises. The teams clearly believe Yuvi still has a lot of cricket left in him. (Ponting Starts New Innings as Mumbai Indians Coach)
Another India great who is trying to make his way back to the National team is 36-year-old Zaheer Khan.
Zak and Yuvi in fact, will be teammates at Delhi Daredevils this season. Both players are eyeing a possible national comeback via the IPL.
Zaheer has said, "I am enjoying playing cricket again. I have been away from cricket for a while now, so just looking forward to getting back. Taking one step at a time and IPL is definitely the first step."
Yuvraj and Zaheer will have their task cut out at the Delhi camp. The Daredevils finished at the bottom of the table in the 2014 edition and have been struggling to make an impact in the IPL for a few seasons. The man at the helm of affairs though is someone both Yuvraj and Zaheer know very well - former India coach, Gary Kirsten.
Zaheer in fact, said, "We know his (Kirsten's) working style, even he knows what to expect from us. So hope that we combine well this season to turn it around for Delhi this time around."
Over the years, the IPL has been a tournament the national selectors have watched closely. Can these two veteran war-horses of Indian cricket make a stunning comeback to the Indian team?
It's not going to be easy, but then the mantra for most champion cricketers is never say never.
