He was accompanied brilliantly by Baba Aparajith, who made a resilient 78 to continue his metronomous consistency. India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was forced to retire injured earlier in the day, but returned late to near a half-century himself, taking his side to a 357/5 in 79 overs at Stumps on Day 1.
