ÂÂ
23:00 (IST): So, a funny game of cricket as admitted by New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. He said that both his side and England will need plenty of luck to go through to the next round. McCullum didn't know that it was going to rain by the look of things but he still did enough to keep his team ahead based on Duckworth-Lewis calculations before the rain arrived in Chittagong. After a long wait, play was abandoned as New Zealand were declared winners by nine runs over England.
ÂÂ
22:42 (IST): New Zealand beat England by nine runs (D/L method) after play is abandoned due to rain.
ÂÂ
22:17 (IST): Meanwhile, the cut-off time has been put ahead by eight minutes. It's 10:53 pm IST now.
ÂÂ
22:12 (IST): Half an hour to go before cut-off time and it's raining again! Is there going to be any more play here? Probably not.
21:58 (IST): There are efforts to try and take the covers off by the groundsmen. Overs will be lost if play starts any later than 10 pm IST, which looks like the case now. The cut-off time for the game is 10:45 pm IST.
ÂÂ
21:46 (IST): An extra half-hour can be taken to get the overs in but it doesn't look like there will be any more cricket today at Chittagong. New Zealand win this match and get two points if there is no more play based on Duckworth-Lewis calculations.
ÂÂ
21:33 (IST): Kaboom! 16 runs off that last over! Brendon McCullum hit Stuart Broad for two sixes and a four! But there was a crack of lightning in between that fifth over and it's pouring now! New Zealand are ahead at the moment based on Duckworth-Lewis calculations. NZ 52/1 (5.2 overs)
ÂÂ
21:19 (IST): WICKET! Martin Guptill c Chris Jordan b Jade Dernbach 11. New Zealand 29/1 (3.3 overs).
21:16 (IST): New Zealand have gotten themselves off to a decent start. They are 15/0 after 2 overs. Kane Williamson (7*), Martin Guptill (7*).
ÂÂ
21:05 (IST): Moeen Ali will open the bowling for England as New Zealand begin their tricky chase of 173.
ÂÂ
20:51 (IST): England post 172/6 in 20 overs vs New Zealand. Moeen Ali 36, Corey Anderson 2/32, Mitchell McClenaghan 1/22.
ÂÂ
20:42 (IST): WICKET! Chris Jordan c Southee b N McCullum 32. England 148/6 (17.4 overs)
ÂÂ
20:32 (IST): WICKET! Jos Buttler b Corey Anderson 32. Buttler drags it on to his stumps! England 129/5 (15.4 overs).
ÂÂ
20:30 (IST): Last five overs coming up for England now! They need to get the maximum runs out of them. England 126/4 (15 overs). Jos Buttler (32*), Ravi Bopara (5*).
ÂÂ
20:15 (IST): WICKET! Eoin Morgan c Brendon McCullum b Tim Southee 12. Morgan does not read the slower ball and chips it to mid-off where Brendon McCullum takes a brilliant catch. England 103/4 (12.3 overs).
19:55 (IST): WICKET! Michael Lumb c Corey Anderson b McClenaghan 33. England 76/3 (8.4 overs). So, England have lost both the batsmen that gave them hope of putting up a big total by scoring runs freely. It's all up to Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler now to get things going again for the side.
19:50 (IST): WICKET! Moeen Ali c McClenaghan b Anderson 36. The dangerman is gone! England 73/2 (7.5 overs).
ÂÂ
19:40 (IST): 17 runs off the fifth over! Moeen Ali got a boundary and six off Tim Southee. Michael Lumb gets into the act too with a glorious boundary over mid-wicket! England 48/1 (5 overs). Moeen Ali (29*), Michael Lumb (15*).
19:30 (IST): 16 off the third over as Moeen Ali hits two fours and a six. England 25/1 (3 overs) vs New Zealand. Moeen Ali looks in great touch here. He showed some of it in the warm-up game against India and if he can keep this hitting going, England may get a big score here.
ÂÂ
19:16 (IST): WICKET! What a catch! Corey Anderson takes a single-handed blinder at mid-off. Alex Hales c Corey Anderson b Kyle Mills 1. England 1/1 (0.3 overs)
ÂÂ
19:12 (IST): The England openers are coming out to bat. It's not going to be a 7:40 pm start after all! Get ready for a cracker!
19:02 (IST): So, the match will now be beginning at 7:40 pm IST instead of the scheduled 7 pm start since the earlier game between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the same venue went a little further than the expected close at 6:30 pm.
ÂÂ
18:54 (IST): Teams - England: 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Moeen Ali, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Ravi Bopara, 7 Tim Bresnan, 8 Chris Jordan, 9 Stuart Broad (capt), 10 James Tredwell, 11 Jade Dernbach
New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Kane Williamson, 3 Brendon McCullum (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Colin Munro 6 Corey Anderson, 7 Luke Ronchi (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Mitchell McClenaghan
ÂÂ
18:47 (IST): Toss! New Zealand skipper McCullum calls it right and his side will bowl first. He says dew is a big factor which made him opt to field. England skipper, looking full fit after a knee injury, agreed and said that he would have liked to bowl first too. Added that he now hopes his batsmen can score big and negate the wet outfield conditions which are expected here tonight.
ÂÂ
18:30 (IST): The toss has been delayed due to the previous match between Sri Lanka and South Africa getting extended. The match was won by Lankans, by 5 wickets. (Scorecard | Highlights)
ÂÂ
18:10 (IST): Pitch news - The track has a bit of grass which is expected to help seamers surprise batsmen. This would get broader smiles on faces in England camp - more than it would on Kiwi players as Broad has already said that pacers are his main weapon in Bangladesh as well.
ÂÂ
17:50 (IST): New Zealand consist of players who are raring to fire. A good series at home against India where the Kiwis won the Tests as well as the ODIs has helped the side show that they have the firepower. The likes of Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum can light up the night sky in Bangladesh with their explosive hitting. Watch out also for all-rounder Anton Devcich who, if included, can posses a threat.
1740 hrs (IST): England come into ICC World Twenty20 after losing the T20 series in West Indies 1-2. The batting has shown the occasional spark with Michael Lumb and Jos Butler providing the sporadic entertainment. Consistency though has been lacking which makes the side vulnerable. The apparent return of Stuart Broad (was out with a knee injury; inclusion in playing XI not yet confirmed) can help lift the morale of the side - one that must have dipped after a loss against India in the warm-ups.
1730 hrs (IST): England and New Zealand are part of Group 1 in ICC World Twenty20 tournament which also has Sri Lanka and South Africa as the other strong teams. As such, Saturday's match between the two teams ceases to be just an opener for the two sides. A win would set up the victor nicely going forward in the tournament while the defeated team will face an uphill struggle to remain in contention.
