Australian batsman David Warner has had a tough year both on and off the field. A testing tour of India in March-April was followed by rather underwhelming performances with bat during the Indian Premier League. These on-field disappointments preceded an infamous punch-up with English batsman Joe Root that led to his sacking from the Champions Trophy squad. Warner's failure in the summer Ashes in England (138 runs in 3 Tests) was filled with barbs and jibes from the unforgiving home crowd. Public apologies notwithstanding, Warner was not considered for the recently-concluded ODI tour to India and asked to prepare for the upcoming home Ashes instead.
At a personal level however, Warner has a lot to smile about. The 27-year-old's romance with Australian model and ironwoman Candice Falzon is probably headed to the next level. According to a report in the Herald Sun, Warner has indicated that he could be married to Falzon by next year. "Will she get me down the aisle? That could be in the frame in the next year or so," he was quoted as saying. "You never know... But she has tamed the bull." (Read full story in the Herald Sun)
Warner and the 28-year-old Falzon began dating in August this year and is proving to be a calming influence on the controversial star. The pair have been inseparable ever since and Falzon was even spotted at Warner's recent Sheffield Shield match. "I never knew how much fun and laughter two people can have with each other. At five in the morning, whether it's just chatting or making breakfast, we are constantly smiling and it's fantastic," he said.
With the return Ashes just over ten days away, Australia would look to avoid a humiliating fourth-straight series defeat. A more focused and matured David Warner could prove a major factor in turning their fortunes around.
