Guyana Amazon Warriors remained undefeated in the 2016 Caribbean Premier League as they won a low-scoring match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by four wickets at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots chose to bat on a slow and sluggish Providence wicket and immediately found themselves in trouble at 29/3 in the ninth over. Stroke-making was proving to be difficult and such was the sluggishness of the wicket that Lendl Simmons batted with only one pad in order to play his strokes freely.
He was the only batsman who adjusted to the conditions and he made 50 off 60 balls, a knock consisting of just two fours and one six. In the process, Simmons secured the record of scoring the slowest hundred in the CPL. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers for Guyana Amazon Warriors with 3/18 from his four overs as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots ended on 108/8 in 20 overs.
In response, Guyana were boosted by a 60-run stand between Martin Guptill and Chris Lynn for the second wicket after the early departure of Dwayne Smith. Guptill smashed three fours and four sixes in his knock of 43 from 22 balls. However, Tabraiz Shamsi and Samuel Badree picked up some quick wickets towards the end but Guyana sneaked over the line with over three overs to spare.
With this win, Guyana Amazon Warriors stayed on top of the table with eight points while St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stayed in fourth spot with just a single win from five games
