c Jos Buttler b Stuart Broad
7.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! What a catch from Jos Buttler behind the sticks! England get their breakthrough and they are delighted! Broad bangs it into the deck, around leg. Marcus Harris stays back and looks to hook it behind square on the leg side but he gets a feather and Jos Buttler behind the sticks dives full stretch to his right and takes a stunner! This is a much-deserved wicket for Stuart Broad and the English bowlers finally get their reward! 4/1

David Warner | 95 | 167 | 11 | 0 | 56.88 |
c Stuart Broad b Ben Stokes
64.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Oh! David Warner is gone and misses out on another century! A short ball, outside off. David Warner cuts it hard but straight to Stuart Broad at covers. He takes a fine flat catch and David Warner has to walk back. David Warner is disappointed and he deserved a century after playing so well throughout the day. Stuart Broad was the only fielder there and David Warner finds him perfectly. This is the opening England needed and they would like to capitalise on it now. 176/2

Marnus Labuschagne | 103 | 305 | 8 | 0 | 33.77 |
lbw b Ollie Robinson
97.5 OUT! LBW! Ollie Robinson gets his man this time and he is pumped! Joy for England! This was a length ball, jagging back in sharply after pitching from outside off. Marnus Labuschagne leaves it but the ball nips back late and hits him near the knee roll. Robinson appeals and the umpire raises his dreaded finger. Marnus Labuschagne consults with his partner, Steven Smith and opts for a review. The Hawk Eye indicates three reds and Labuschagne is a goner! Robinson would surely breathe a sigh of relief! 241/3

Steven Smith C | 93 | 201 | 12 | 1 | 46.26 |
lbw b James Anderson
139 OUT! LBW! James Anderson gets his first wicket of the game and sends back the Australian skipper, Steven Smith, back to the pavilion. Nervous 90s they say and the experienced seamer Anderson hands a crucial breakthrough for his side. He was agonisingly close to his century, and shakes his head as he walks out of the field. A full-length ball, outside off. The ball nips in a long way. Smith shuffles across and looks to defend it out, but misses and gets struck on the pads. James Anderson appeals and the umpire raises his dreaded finger. Smith goes for the review. The RTS shows no bat is involved. The Ball Tracker shows it is umpire's call on impact and the ball is hitting the wickets. Smith has to walk back. 385/6

|||||
Travis Head | 18 | 36 | 3 | 0 | 50 |
b Joe Root
110.3 OUT! BOWLED! Joe Root strikes and gets the big wicket of Travis Head! Did him for flight and drift, maybe! Loopy ball, drifting in around leg and then spinning away late. Head looks to flick it across the line but he misses, gets into a tangle and the ball crashes onto his off pole. So the ploy to attack Root hasn't quite worked for Australia! The centurion of the previous game walks back to the hut. 291/4
|
|||||
Cameron Green | 2 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 40 |
b Ben Stokes
111.3 OUT! BOWLED! That is a peach of a delivery from Stokes and Cameron Green is castled yet again! Stokes hurls a length ball, angling in from off. The ball straightens and goes past Green's defense to knock his off stump over. Green completely misread the line of the delivery as he played for the inswinger! Top stuff from Ben Stokes. Two wickets in two overs for England and they are back in the contest! 294/5
|
|||||
Alex Carey Wk | 51 | 107 | 5 | 0 | 47.66 |
c Haseeb Hameed b James Anderson
140.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust. James Anderson picks up his second wicket in the space of two overs. A length ball, around off. Alex Carey plays it on the up and lifts it towards cover. Haseeb Hameed keeps his eyes on the ball, dives to his right and pouches it safely. He was a bit sloppy in the field, since the first Test match, but this catch was a crucial one and he does not drop this one. THAT WILL BE TEA ON DAY 2! 390/7

c Stuart Broad b Ben Stokes
149.1 OUT! CAUGHT! That is a seriously good catch from Stuart Broad. Length ball, just outside off. Neser looks to go downtown but he gets the toe end of his bat and the ball balloons in the air behind the mid on fielder. Stuart Broad at mid on backtracks, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a good catch. End of an entertaining innings from the debutant. Broad is making his teammate know that he could not see the ball. The lights were right in the eyes and that's why he tumbled into the ground as he grabbed the ball. 448/8

Jhye Richardson | 9 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 300 |
c Jos Buttler b Chris Woakes
150.4 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Short ball, on off. Jhye Richardson looks to heave it away. The ball takes the outside edge and Jos Buttler takes the catch safely, unlike on Day 1. Steven Smith signals from the pavilion. AUSTRALIA DECLARE AT 473/9. 473/9

c Mitchell Starc b Michael Neser
6.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Michael Neser gets his maiden Test wicket in his first over. His teammates love it. A full-length ball, around middle and leg. Haseeb Hameed stays inside the crease and flicks it aerially towards short mid-wicket. Mitchell Starc is placed at the right place and takes the simplest of catches to put the visitors in a spot of trouble already. You can call this a poor shot, or what was the need to play the ball in the air and so on. But this is where Smith's captaincy has to be given a nod. That man was strategically placed there, because Hameed has this habit of slicing the ball in the air, while getting across the line and looking to play on the leg side. 12/2

|||||
Rory Burns | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 133.33 |
c Steven Smith b Mitchell Starc
2.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Starc sends back Rory Burns yet again in this Test series. Australia get the dream start they were looking for. Starc serves it quicker, back of a length, around off. Rory Burns shuffles across and looks to defend it out. The ball takes the outside edge and goes towards the second slip. Steven Smith is placed there who makes no mistake and pouches it comfortably. 7/1
|
|||||
Dawid Malan | 80 | 157 | 10 | 0 | 50.95 |
c Steven Smith b Mitchell Starc
51.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Starc comes back into the attack and strikes after getting hit for a boundary. He has the last laugh here. Back of a length, outside off. Malan looks to chase it away from his body. The ball goes off the outside edge towards Steven Smith at first slip, who pouches it safely to his right. Another set batter departs for the visitors. Have the floodgates opened up for the Aussies? 157/4
|
|||||
Joe Root C | 62 | 116 | 7 | 0 | 53.44 |
c Steven Smith b Cameron Green
45.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Cameron Green gets his reward and takes the big wicket of Joe Root! Green hurls a back-of-a-length delivery, around the corridor of uncertainty. Root looks to poke at it yet again and he gets a thick outside edge this time which goes straight to Australia's stand-in captain, Steven Smith at first slip who pouches it with ease. Root has to wait for his maiden Test hundred on Australian soil and this is a much-needed breakthrough for the hosts. 150/3
|
|||||
Ben Stokes | 34 | 98 | 3 | 1 | 34.69 |
b Cameron Green
79.3 OUT! BOWLED! Green does the trick! Stokes really had no other option but to attack now! Green bowls it short of a length and outside off. Stokes looks to slog it away but gets the inside edge. The ball goes back to hit the stumps and England's chances of avoiding the follow on are dismal now. 220/9
|
|||||
Ollie Pope | 5 | 19 | 1 | 0 | 26.31 |
c Marnus Labuschagne b Nathan Lyon
57 OUT! CAUGHT! Nathan Lyon gets his man this time and he is delighted! Lyon serves a full-length delivery outside off which turns in sharply. Pope skips down in order to smother the spin. He tries to flick but gets an inside edge. The ball pops up and goes towards Marnus Labuschagne at short leg who takes a good catch. Good quick reaction from Labuschagne. England sink further as they lose their fifth wicket now! 164/5
|
|||||
Jos Buttler Wk | 15 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c David Warner b Mitchell Starc
61.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Starc picks up his third wicket of the innings. Jos Buttler goes back without scoring. His first duck against Australia. The Aussies are dominating here. Starc enticed the batsman by going wide consistently and this time Buttler falls for it. Full-length ball, outside off, shaping away from the batter. Jos Buttler leans in and looks to drive it away. The ball takes the outside edge and goes towards the first slip. David Warner is stationed there who takes a brilliant catch. 169/6

lbw b Nathan Lyon
76.4 OUT! LBW! Nathan Lyon gets his third wicket and England are in deep trouble now! Flatter ball, outside off and spinning in sharply. Robinson is stuck to his crease and looks to flick it across the line. He misses it and gets pinged on his pad. Lyon appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Robinson reviews straightaway! The Hawk Eye suggests that the impact is umpire's call and the wickets hitting. Robinson has to take the long walk back to the pavilion. 204/8

Stuart Broad | 9 | 17 | 0 | 1 | 52.94 |
c Travis Head b Mitchell Starc
84.1 OUT! CAUGHT! England are bowled out for 236. Stuart Broad looks to go downtown but miscues his hit. Mitchell Starc gets his fourth wicket of the game. Touch short, around middle and leg. Broad moves back and looks to heave it away. The ball flies towards cover off the outer half. Head settles under it and takes it easily. 50 wickets in Day-Night Tests for Mitchell Starc. run out (Stuart Broad / Jos Buttler)
14 OUT! RUN OUT! Oh dear! Absolute chaos in the middle and it is David Warner who has to walk back to the pavilion! This was a flatter ball, on leg. Marcus Harris tucks it to square leg and takes off for a run. Warner at the non-striker's end is in two minds whether to run or not and by the time he goes for it he was halfway down the pitch and Stuart Broad had thrown the ball to Jos Buttler. So Warner decides to run back to the bowler's end but Harris had already reached the non-striker's end and the former pulls out in the end. Buttler whips the bails off and Warner takes the long walk back to the hut. To be honest, Warner has sacrificed his wicket here. If he wished, he could have scampered back to the non-striker's end and made it in before Harris. But he knew that it was his call and hence, his mistake, so did not bother to put in too much effort once he saw Harris fully committed. Team spirit. 41/1

Marcus Harris | 23 | 66 | 3 | 0 | 34.84 |
c Jos Buttler b Stuart Broad
19.2 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! This is what England need! They needed early wickets and England's two frontline pacers are just doing that job. This time it is Broad who gets it. He bowls a good-length delivery, outside off, shaping away. Marcus Harris has a poke at it. The ball goes off the outside edge and flies through to the keeper. Jos Buttler took a brilliant catch in the first innings and it was of Harris and this time it is Harris again. Buttler dives to his left and takes a one-handed stunner. Brilliant from the keeper and England have got two wickets in quick succession. 48/3
|
|||||
Michael Neser | 3 | 13 | 0 | 0 | 23.07 |
b James Anderson
19 OUT! TIMBER! The nightwatchman has been sent packing! Just the start England needed. Anderson bowls a good-length delivery, on off, coming back in. Michael Neser presses forward to defend. The ball nips back in enough to get past Neser's defence and shatters the wooden furniture behind him. 48/2
|
|||||
Marnus Labuschagne | 51 | 96 | 6 | 0 | 53.12 |
c Ben Stokes b Dawid Malan
52.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Dawid Malan gets his first Test wicket and this is only the third time Marnus Labuschagne slipped out to a leg-spinner. Floated, full and on off. Marnus Labuschagne gets low and slog-sweeps it to deep mid-wicket. He does not get the desired distance on it and Ben Stokes will never drop such sitters. He pouches it comfortably and Marnus Labuschagne's knock comes to an end. A crucial breakthrough by Dawid Malan. 173/6
|
|||||
Steven Smith C | 6 | 31 | 1 | 0 | 19.35 |
c Jos Buttler b Ollie Robinson
29 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! That is a very good catch from Jos Buttler. He has put down a couple of catches in this Test match but has taken some spectacular ones as well. This was back-of-a-length ball, on middle. Steven Smith has a habit of moving a little to the off side to play the ball. He does so again and tries to work it on the leg side. The ball goes off the gloves to the keeper. Jos Buttler dives full stretch to his left and grabs another one-handed catch. Excellent stuff from him and England have got the Aussie skipper. 55/4
|
|||||
Travis Head | 51 | 54 | 7 | 0 | 94.44 |
c Ben Stokes b Ollie Robinson
46 OUT! CAUGHT! Ben Stokes takes a stunning catch in the deep to send back Travis Head. His entertaining innings comes to an end. Ollie Robinson picks up his second wicket and breaks an important partnership this time. Short ball, around off. Head stays back and thinks of riding the bounce. He hooks to deep square leg. Ben Stokes runs to his left and takes a good low diving catch to his left. He gets there in time. 144/5

Jhye Richardson | 8 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 200 |
c Jos Buttler b Dawid Malan
61 OUT! CAUGHT! Dawid Malan bags his second wicket. This was a tossed up delivery, on middle. Jhye Richardson gets down on one knee and again goes for the slog sweep. This time, it goes off the top edge and just ahead of the keeper on the leg side. Jos Buttler gulps it down easily. And with that, Australia have declared their innings on 230. They lead by 467 runs. 230/9

31 OUT! CAUGHT! Steven Smith does not make any mistake this time. Jhye Richardson picks up his second wicket of the game and the Adelaide Oval erupts in joy. Full-length ball, around off, nips away a shade. Burns looks to defend it out but only manages to get an outside edge to slip cordon. Steven Smith keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a sharp catch low to his right. Ben Stokes will be the new man in. 70/3

|||||
Haseeb Hameed | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Alex Carey b Jhye Richardson
2 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Yet again, England lose an early wicket. However, this time, you cannot fault the batsman much. This was just perfect, just perfect from Jhye Richardson. Hameed did everything possibly right that he could. It was landed on a length, outside off and Haseeb, rightfully, went forward to defend. But the ball just landed and kept on rising. Now, if that happens, no batsman in the world can control what is going to happen next. It would have been a bad shot had the outside edge been taken. That time, you could fault his technique. But here, the ball has climbed steeply, pinged the gloves and then gone to Alex Carey. So if you are Hameed, just nod your head to Jhye, admiring his delivery. Not your mistake at all. Tough, tough luck. 4/1

Dawid Malan | 20 | 52 | 4 | 0 | 38.46 |
lbw b Michael Neser
21.1 OUT! LBW! Michael Neser you beauty! He gets the big wicket of Dawid Malan and Neser picks up his first wicket of the innings. This is the second time we are witnessing a reprieve not lasting long today. Earlier in the day, Smith was dropped once but did not last long after that, while Malan, who was just dropped by Smith an over before, falls on the next ball he faces. A length ball, around off, nips in sharply off the deck. Malan is stuck inside his crease and gets rapped on the pads. Neser appeals and the umpire raises his dreaded finger. Top class stuff from the bowler. Malan gives it a thought and takes the review eventually. The RTS shows no bat is involved. The Ball Tracker shows three reds and Malan has to walk back to the pavilion. 48/2

Joe Root C | 24 | 67 | 1 | 0 | 35.82 |
c Alex Carey b Mitchell Starc
43.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! The way Steven Smith was jumping in joy after the catch was taken just shows how big and how pleased are the Aussies with this wicket. Exactly what they would have wanted before Stumps. Either the wicket of Root or Stokes, the former preferably and they have got it. Starc the provider again. Really have to feel sorry for Root. He was battling through a lot of pain, he just had the 4 balls to get through on Day 4 but he falls. He could have left this one alone though but probably the left-arm around angle does him in. This lands outside off, and holds its line. Root looks to defend, it was well outside off. He does so inside the line. The ball goes off the outside edge and the keeper does the rest. He walks back and so do the other plays as THAT IS STUMPS ON DAY 4! 82/4
|
|||||
Ben Stokes | 12 | 77 | 1 | 0 | 15.58 |
lbw b Nathan Lyon
56.4 OUT! LBW! Tossed up, on middle and leg. Ben Stokes looks to turn it away but misses. He gets rapped on the pads. Australia appeal for an lbw but the umpire says no. Steven Smith opts for a review. Nothing on UltraEdge. Ball Tracking shows all three reds. This is an excellent, excellent review by Australia. Steven Smith took his time before reviewing it but he will be a happy man now. Nathan Lyon bags his first wicket of this innings and what an important one. England needed Ben Stokes to stay at the middle but he has to walk back to the pavilion after doing all the blocking off Lyon's deliveries. Chris Woakes walks out to bat. 105/6

Ollie Pope | 4 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 57.14 |

45.3 OUT! TAKEN! Change of angle does the trick for Mitchell Starc! Goes over the wicket and bowls it on a good length, on off, angling away. Ollie Pope has a gentle poke at it. The ball goes off the outside edge and Steven Smith at second slip makes no mistake. Just the start Australia would have wanted. Second over of the day and Mitchell Starc removes Ollie Pope for a timid score. Half of the England side back in the hut now. 86/5

hit wicket b Jhye Richardson
110 OUT! HIT-WICKET! Buttler's resilience ends in a bizarre way! Richardson serves a shorter delivery, outside off. Buttler waits back and cuts it to point. He stands so deep in the crease that he knocks the base of the stump with his boot. Jos Buttler gets a standing ovation as he walks back, and he truly deserves that. There goes England's last hope. 182/9

Chris Woakes | 44 | 97 | 7 | 0 | 45.36 |
b Jhye Richardson
88 OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! What a comeback by Jhye Richardson, a peach of a delivery! A good-length delivery, pitching it on off and nipping back in sharply. Chris Woakes looks to defend that but gets beaten and as the ball shapes in and knocks the middle pole. Jhye Richardson strikes at the right time for Australia. He has broken this crucial partnership and Australia only need 3 wickets to win now. 166/7

102.2 OUT! TAKEN! Ollie Robinson departs. Proper Test match cricket this. Seven fielders surrounding the batsman. Nathan Lyon bowls a loopy one, on off. Didn't turn much. Ollie Robinson stays on the back foot and has a poke at it. The ball takes the outside edge and flies to Steven Smith at first slip. He makes no mistake and Australia now just two wickets away from clinching a victory. 178/8
