Ajinkya Rahane took to Instagram on Saturday to reveal that he along with his wife Radhika received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The India Test vice-captain also urged everyone, who is eligible, to get vaccinated. "Both me and @radhika_dhopavkar got our first dose of the vaccine today. We're getting vaccinated not only for ourselves but also for those around us. I urge everyone to get vaccinated if you're eligible," Rahane, who plays for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), captioned the image on Instagram.
Rahane's IPL teammate Shikhar Dhawan also recently received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"Vaccinated Can't thank all our frontline warriors enough for their sacrifices and dedication. Please do not hesitate and get yourself vaccinated as soon as possible. It'll help us all defeat this virus," Dhawan had tweeted.
Rahane's IPL franchise was on top of the points table before the 14th edition of the IPL was postponed indefinitely by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL Governing Council after multiple Covid cases were reported within the bio-bubble.
Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals all reported positive Covid cases within their camps.
On Friday, Rahane was named in the India squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand and the five-match Test series against England.
The World Test Championship final will be played in Southampton from June 18 to June 22 with June 23 to be kept as a reserve day.
