Sri Lanka closed the fourth day of the third and final Test against Pakistan on 133-5 in Sharjah on Sunday.
Angelo Mathews (14) and Prasanna Jayawardene (six) were at the crease with Sri Lanka holding a lead of 220 runs with five wickets in hand and a full day's play left as they seek to win the series which they lead 1-0.
Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman (2-36) and paceman Mohammad Talha (2-36) shared the bowling spoils.
Earlier, Pakistan were dismissed for 341 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 87 over Sri Lanka's total of 428-9 declared.
Skipper Misbah-ul Haq made 63. Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath finished with 5-125 while paceman Shaminda Eranga took a career best 4-60.
Sri Lanka won the second Test by nine wickets in Dubai while the first Test ended as a draw in Abu Dhabi.
