Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao believes he has one final fight left in him before he hangs his gloves and start off with a new life as an administrator.
Pacquiao, who lost to Floyd Mayweather in his last fight in May earlier this year, wants to run for a seat in the Philippines senate in 2016. "I think I'm ready [to retire]. I've been in boxing for more than 20 years," said Pacquiao, who was in Doha for a short visit during the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
"I will be standing for Congress and that is a big responsibility. If you are a senator, your focus should only be your job and your family. I will have to give up the other things that require my attention," Pacquiao was quoted in BBC.
When quizzed about whom he would prefer to face for the final bout of the career, the 36-year-old said, "I would choose Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan or Mikey Garcia.
"I would love to have my next fight here in Qatar, and my team is now working towards that. Whether it will be against Amir Kahn or Floyd Mayweather, I'll be ready. I would love to have a rematch against Floyd in Qatar!
"It was a nice surprise to see so many Filipinos here, it kind of felt like a home away from home. It's also great to see the World Championship in this region for the first time. It's important to reach out to new generations and new places, which is why I have come to Doha to offer my support.
He turned professional when he was 16 years old and has won 57 fights, including 38 knockouts while losing six, three of them knockouts. Two other bouts were drawn. Expressing his statisfaction over his career, the Filipino said that the thing he enjoyed the most was the fact he got to travel around the world.
"I am very happy with the way my career has shaped up over the years. I have travelled and met a lot of people during the course and it has opened new doors for me. I became a Congressman and now I would be standing for Senate," said Pacquiao.
