Gavaskar says India are firm favourites in this series
Sunil Gavaskar, who has memorable moments in the Caribbean, feels India will extend their domination against the West Indies in the four-Test series that starts in the West Indies on Thursday.
ÂÂ
Speaking to NDTV from Antigua, Gavaskar said West Indies don't have the bowling strength to bowl out India twice in a match. "They clearly don't have the bowlers to take 20 Indian wickets and that gives the visitors an edge," said Gavaskar.
ÂÂ
India will be batting first after winning the toss and Gavaskar feels Virat Kohli will choose to back his experienced players in the first two Tests, at least.
ÂÂ
"The left-right combination of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay has worked well for India and India will bank on that trusted pair," said Gavaskar.
ÂÂ
India have not lost to the West Indies since October 2002 and Gavaskar feels that Kohli's men should be able to extend that great run. West Indies have a new team with several stars missing the series due to pay disputes with their cricket Board.
ÂÂ
"They don't have the batsmen to score the big hundreds, except perhaps Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo," said Gavaskar, explaining the lack of depth in the West Indian team.
ÂÂ
Gavaskar said India will profit from head coach Anil Kumble's huge experience. " Although he was a spinner, Anil has the mentality of a fast bowler. The Kumble-Kohli should be big for India," Gavaskar said.
