Indian team head coach Anil Kumble hailed West Indies spinner Roston Chase for his match-saving innings of 137 which helped the hosts draw the second Test against India at Sabina Park.
"Chase's approach today was very good. He looked to attack when needed to and blocked literally every ball, so kept our bowlers at bay, which was obviously disappointing from the outside," Kumble told reporters during a press conference at the end of the match.
The veteran leg-spinner, who took over reins of Indian team last month, praised the West Indies team for their resilience shown to deny the visitors a 2-0 lead in the four-Test series.
When asked if a delayed declaration worked against India's favour, Kumble said he did not think so.
"It's all nice to now sit and say when we should have declared and what if, but I thought we played really good cricket, we were dominant right throughout and today, you know the change in momentum happened and credit to the West Indian batsmen," he said.
"You have times when the opposition puts up a brave challenge and that's exactly what happened," he added further.
Kumble was all praise for Mohammad Shami, who made a comeback to international cricket after a break of 18 months.
"I'm really happy for Shami. Coming back after 18 months is not easy. The way he has come back and bowled aggressively, yesterday I thought he bowled the best spell that I have seen," he said.
Overall, the team head coach expressed satisfaction with the performance of India's bowlers but added the team management will discuss on how to get the last four wickets in the third Test at St Lucia which begins on August 9.
