It was a battle of attrition on Day 2 of the Jamaica Test on Sunday. India's overall run-rate (2:86) revealed that run-making at Sabina Park was no easy task. It needed the copy-book approach of two classy Test batsman - Lokesh Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara -- for India to take a grip on the match.
India, riding on a career-best 158 by Rahul, were 358 for five in their first innings by close of play, a lead of 162 runs with five wickets in hand. On Sunday, the Windies attack bowled with discipline and while they did not exactly terrorise the batsmen, they at least kept them mostly in check.
Not that India are under any pressure to score quickly. With three days left, they have time on their side and seem determined to grind out a big lead.
Ajinkya Rahane (batting 42) and Wriddhiman Saha (17 not out) will start proceedings and are perfectly capable of batting on a wicket with dual bounce.
Any lead above 250 will be enough for India's spinners to have a go at the Caribbean batsmen, who are yet to show the class needed to survive in a five-day game.
