If final India-West Indies Test ends in draw, Pakistan will be No.1
Everything has gone well for Virat Kohli and India in the ongoing series against West Indies. They have clinched the series 2-0 and they are currently the No.1 ranked side in the world. However, the end of the series could see Kohli and India relinquish the No.1 ranking due to reasons beyond their control.
The fourth Test in Port-of-Spain has been ruined by the rain. The first day saw only 22 overs being bowled before rain brought an end to proceedings. On days two and three, a combination of wet outfield and rain has resulted in no play at all. With the forecast not looking too promising for the next two days, the chances of the match ending in a damp draw look highly likely.
If the match ends in a draw, this could mean bad news for India's status as the No.1 ranked Test side. Before the fourth Test in Trinidad, Australia, India, Pakistan and England were locked in a tussle for the No.1 Test spot.
Australia suffered a 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka and were dethroned as the top side. This gave England a chance to go on top but they lost to Pakistan at The Oval, giving Misbah-ul-Haq's team a chance to scale the summit. However, India defeated West Indies in St.Lucia to clinch the series and become the No.1 ranked side.
According to the latest ICC rankings, India needed to win by a 3-0 scoreline to maintain the top spot. But with rain on the first three days and Pakistan's 2-2 series draw against England, it looks likely that the final Test in Trinidad could head for a draw, making Pakistan the No.1 ranked Test side.
Virat Kohli would be hoping that the weather remains clear for the next two days and that West Indies suffer a batting collapse similar to the one in St.Lucia. With quick runs and quick wickets, Kohli faces a race against time if India have to win the fourth Test and stay on top.
