Indians at US Open: Spirited Somdev loses; Sania, Bhupathi and Bopanna exit mixed doubles
While Bopanna and Sania still remain in the fray with their respective men's doubles and women's doubles partners Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Zheng Jie, Bhupathi's US Open comes to an end with this loss. Bhupathi and Philipp Petzschner lost out in the first round of their men's doubles to Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil 3-6, 6-7.

It was end of US Open campaign for Somdev Devvarman and Mahesh Bhupathi after they lost their respective hard-fought matches even as Rohan Bopanna had a mixed day, here.
Somdev, who had qualified for the singles main draw, battled hard for two hours 40 minutes before losing 6-7(8),4-6, 5-7 to Italian 20th seed Andreas Seppi.
India's challenge at the mixed doubles event of the US Open 2013 ended with Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna losing in the first round with their respective partners.
Third seeds Bopanna and partner Julia Goerges of Germany lost out to Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and Abigail Spears of USA 7-6, 2-6, 6-10. What clinched the game for the Mexican-American duo was the break-points they won as the Indo-German pair could not break their serve at all.
Bopanna had sweet-sour day as he advanced in the men's doubles though alongwith partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin, beating American pair of Bradley Klahn and Sam Querrey 6-2 6-4.
Sania and her partner Horia Tecau of Romania too went down in three sets USA's Liezel Huber and Marcelo Melo of Brazil. They lost in another close battle 6-4, 6-7, 4-10.
Bhupathi, playing with the comeback lady Martina Hingis lost out in straight sets 6-7, 6-7 to Sweden's Robert Lindstedt and Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei.
