Chennai:
Reg Dickason, who oversaw security arrangements during the India-England two-Test series in Chennai and Mohali, would be handling the arrangements for the ATP Tour event.
"It does present different channels. Security for cricket was enhanced because of the spectator support and also the number of entry and exit points. We conducted a pre-event check in formalising the security arrangements for this tennis tournament and security initiatives were addressed to," Dikason told reporters here.
"I was here for a short time for cricket. Likewise, for the tennis players we will give them basic security advices. We do not differentiate amongst overseas or Indian players. Security will be in place for every one.
"We are assisting organisers of the event in preparation of this major tournament in security perspective. Our role will be to add to the existing security arrangements with lot of police personnel," he added.
Ravi Krishnan, consultant to IMG, owners of the ATP Chennai Open, explained that although there was no cause for concern, they decided to make security set up more stringent considering the situation.
"Not one communication came from any player or ATP. We took the step because of the environment that we are living in today. No one expressed hostility or any concern.
"We were more than happy with the security by the police and private agency during the last 13 years for this tournament. We only wanted to bring in another layer of security for this major event," he said.
