Del Potro in second round

Stuttgart, Germany: Juan Martin del Potro on Tuesday became the second Argentine qualifier to reach the second round of the Mercedes Cup. Del Potro defeated Andrei Pavel of Romania, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, setting up a second-round match with fellow Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela. Chela is seeded No. 8. Del Potro's victory came a day after Diego Junqueira defeated Christophe Rochus. Del Potro was joined in the second round by Argentina's Juan Monaco, who beat German Michael Berrer, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4, in a match suspended Monday night due to poor light.
