Joe Root doesn't move his feet much and just tries to run it down with a slightly open bat face. The height of Will helps him extract an extra bit of bounce, and there is a bit of nip away, enough to induce an outside edge of Root's bat. Sprayed down leg, on a length. Brook swings at it and he has no intention of keeping it on the ground. He wanted to go a lot squarer but ended up playing it straight down the throat of Kyle Jamieson at deep fine leg. Stokes pushes it out in front of his body with hard hands. The outside edge is found and it goes low towards third slip, where Kane Williamson dives to his right, in front of Tom Latham stationed at second slip. Williamson sticks out his right hand to take the catch. The ball threatens to pop out, but he manages to cling to it close to his right shoulder. End of a 39-run stand. England are now 94/6.  94/6

The keeper, Tom Blundell, gathers this low to his left and appeals confidently, but doesn't get much support from others around him. Will O'Rourke does not move his feet much and goes through the shot to drive it away to the off side, opening the face of his bat. 33.1 OUT! LBW! An absolute peach of a delivery from Smith and what a fantastic passage of play this has been for the Kiwis. Pitched slightly fuller and it jags back in very sharply, hurrying Root up. 46.2 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! And just like that, out of nowhere, Gus Atkinson gifts his wicket away. Kyle Jamieson bashes the ball into the deck, just short of a length and over the stumps. Gus Atkinson leans back and looks to pull, but the ball gets big on him and Atkinson ends up miscuing it badly. Ravindra's footwork is caught in between, neither fully forward nor properly back, and he ends up hanging on the crease. He pushes tentatively inside the line, only for the ball to whistle past the outside edge and crash into the stumps. The timber is disturbed, and New Zealand lose their fourth wicket at a crucial stage. Ravindra departs after being drawn into indecision, and England tighten their grip on the contest.
