Former India batter Virender Sehwag has backed Shivam Dube for a place in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America. Dube has been in sublime for in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Playing as an impact sub, Dube has registered scores of 34, 51, 18 and 45 in CSK's first four games. Sehwag feels Dube's current form might be a bit concerning for players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shreyas Iyer, who are also in contention to get a place in the squad for the T20 World Cup.
Sehwag feels the management should pick in-form players, adding that Dube's selection is all but confirmed.
"I said before the match that the way Shivam Dube has been playing, his ticket should be confirmed for the T20 World Cup. He has put a lot of pressure on players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and now they have to score consistent runs to make the World Cup squad. Take the players who are in-form," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz's hindi show.
Legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also vouched for Dube's selection for the T20 World Cup after his fiery 22-ball 45 against SRH on Friday.
Taking to X, Yuvraj suggested that Dube can prove to be a gamechanger for India during the T20 World Cup.
"Good to watch @IamShivamDube clearing the field with ease !! I feel he has to be in the World Cup squad . Has got the skill to be the #gamechanger #CSKvsSRH #IPLT20," he said.
