The Super Fight League promoted by IPL team Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has roped in London Olympics bronze medalist M C Mary Kom as its brand ambassador.
"Mary's role is very simple. She is the mentor for female fighters and inspiration for male fighters. She will be part of the selection process. She has recommended to us two to three names already who have the potential. If they have what it takes to fight in the cage, we will train them," Kundra told reporters here.
The Super Fight League is India's first professionally organised mixed martial arts which will feature Friday fight nights from October 12 to December 14.
Mary said such events are important as they give recognition to fighters.
"I have been fighting for 12 years and only after the Olympics, people recognise me. Earlier (before winning the bronze) only a few people recognised me," the five-time world champion pugilist said.
Kundra said the new sport is yet to break-even but considers it to be a profitable venture in the long run.
"We just started SFL as a roadshow to test waters. We are happy the way it has done. We might be at a loss now but we think it is a very profitable business in future," said Kundra, who has invested Rs 100 crore for the first three years in the venture.
The first season of SFL commenced in March and had its finale yesterday, according to the event's Chief Operating Officer Daniel Isaac.
