Melbourne:

Andrew McDonald, captain of Big Bash League side Melbourne Renegades, which has roped in spin legend Shane Warne, on Tuesday said that the Twenty20 event must get major Indian players if it wants to rival the Indian Premier League.

Along with Warne, the Big Bash has attracted former Test opener Matthew Hayden, and West Indies' Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo for the December 16-January 28 tournament.

India's top players would not be able to join the Big Bash this year due to scheduling clash with their tour of Australia starting next month.

Melbourne Renegades captain McDonald said if the Big Bash is to rival the IPL, a schedule must be found that suits Indian players.

"For it to be world-renowned, we're probably going to have to open up a window for it," said McDonald, who played four Tests for Australia in 2009.
