Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Gujarat Lions by eight wickets at Kanpur to book their Indian Premier League Play-offs berth with four balls remaining. Captain David Warner (69) and Vijay Shankar (63) batting smartly and held the fort after two early blows. After this win Hyderabad are placed second with 17 points after Mumbai Indians. Man of the Match, Mohammed Siraj says that the wicket of Pradeep Sangwan was the most pleasing one for him. Thanks the Almighty for the performance. Says that he knew he had to vary pace on this wicket. Thanks Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul for helping him out throughout the tournament.
Hyderabad skipper, David Warner says that Gujarat got off to a flier. Reckons that the wicket was slowing down a lot and variations worked for them. Mentions that they tried to communicate after the first wicket about the conditions and plans. Credits Mohammed Siraj for the way he came back today after getting the slack initially. Mentions that India have some brilliant talent in pace bowling and names Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. Opines that it is always about batting around each other and rotating the strike in the middle overs. Ends by saying that they had some pressure on them when it came about the qualification but finally they have made it through. Adds that he is not worried about the next games and he also mentions that he is aware that they might have to once again win three games in a row to win the trophy.
Gujarat skipper, Suresh Raina says that they have missed experienced bowlers and hence failed to qualify to the playoffs. Mentions that they did not do well in the spin department as well. Calls it a season to forget but a learning curve for the youngsters. Credits Ishan Kishan, Basil Thampi for doing well. Shikhar Dhawan got the visitors off to a brisk start while David Warner played second fiddle. But Praveen Kumar pulled things back when he sent back the former and Moises Henriques in his second over. The skipper though kept marching on calmly and had the young Vijay Shankar for company. Both of them were given a life - Warner was not given out caught behind early in the innings while Shankar was dropped on 6. They both made them pay with an unbeaten 133-run stand to seal the deal for their side.
Hyderabad have put in a clinical show and booked their place in the playoffs. After winning the toss, they put Gujarat to bat. Ishan Kishan and Dwayne Smith got the hosts off to a flying start scoring 105 in the first 10 overs. Once they departed, the innings crumbled like a pack of cards and the home side only managed to post 154.
