Having beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad twice this season, Kolkata Knight Riders will start favourites on paper in Delhi tonight. Gautam Gambhir will be at home in Kotla's conditions and his batting form will be crucial to KKR's fortunes.
Man for man, both KKR and SRH are well matched. Their ability to defend totals have been the hallmark of both sides and the entire credit goes to their bowlers.
Andre Russell's return will bolster KKR. The burly West Indian has been KKR's Most Valuable Player, contributing with both the bat and ball at crucial times. Russell has taken a record 49 wickets in 35 T20 matches this season.
SRH will miss Delhi veteran Ashish Nehra's expertise during death overs but Hyderabad is blessed with a gifted Bangladeshi, Mustafizur Rahman, who is capable of leaving the best of batsmen in his wake with his cutters and slower balls.
David Warner has played an inspirational role for SRH this season. With 658 runs, the Aussie opener is third on the IPL top scorers list and is a proven performer on big days. He will count on support from Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh, both well versed with Delhi's playing conditions.
The winner of this match goes on to play Gujarat Lions in the second qualifier at Kotla on Friday.
